MICAH PARRA
company movement artist
Micah grew up in southern Washington where she started her movement journey as a competitive gymnast and dancer. At 18 she moved to Las Vegas and began experimenting with circus (silks, hoop, pole and duo trapeze). Following that passion she joined San Diego Circus Center’s Professional Program 2021/2022, and was pleasantly surprised to find a city embedded with artists in a variety of mediums. Since moving to San Diego Micah has performed and/or choreographed for Malashock Dance (seasons 2022/2023), Disco Riot (Space Residency Program 2022), San Diego Dance Theater (Emerging Choreographers and Trolley Dances 2023), The San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld San Diego and has participated in a number of local showcases and performance art projects. In addition to performing and choreographing she teaches tumbling, flexibility, modern and contemporary dance, and aerial pole.
Micah’s personal training consists of an assortment of classes, workshops and intensives, learning from companies like the TL Collective, NW Dance Project, Hubbard Street Dance, and Rebecca Lemme of Focused Study. In her on-going education and workspaces she values diversity, artist autonomy, fusing multiple disciplines, technique and the origin of movement, and environments that allow for total submergence into the art. Micah is a queer activist with big dreams of healthy, thriving communities. Being an artist and teacher is where she connects to her purpose. She looks forward to a future with Wingbeat and its other company members.
